Job Title:              Telecommunications IR / Switch Technician

Job Description:

  • Backup for Nortel SL-100 switch technician

  • Test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate sources of malfunctions, using test meters, circuit diagrams, polarity probes, and other hand tools

  • Test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.

  • Inspect equipment on a regular basis in order to ensure proper functioning.

  • Repair or replace faulty equipment such as defective and damaged telephones, wires, switching system components, and associated equipment.

  • Remove and remake connections in order to change circuit layouts, following work orders of diagrams.

  • Adjust or modify equipment to enhance equipment performance or to respond to customer requests.

  • Key cable to all telephone sets, terminal connectors, lugs, pins, or screws.

  • Pull cable through conduit, above ceilings, and between floors.

  • Terminate cable on cross connects, hubs, and routers.

  • Repair, install, and maintain outside plant facilities including telephone poles, underground services, and conduit.

  • Lift and load equipment and material.

  • Assure dependable and uninterrupted operation of telephone communications.

  • Troubleshoot and identify malfunctioning or inoperative equipment.

  • Identify problems by using electronic testing equipment.

  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance.

  • Drive crew trucks to and from work areas.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in copper, fiber, cat5e, and cat6 cable installation, maintenance, and repair.

  • Experience in copper and fiber splicing.

  • Cable locating experience.

  • Minimum of two years experience on the Nortel SL-100 switching system.

  • Call Pilot Voice Mail experience.

Clearance

Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.  Hire dates are dependent upon the issuance of an interim or final government security clearance.
